چکیده

In this paper, we develop, study and test new neighborhood structures for the Hopconstrained Minimum Spanning Tree Problem (HMSTP). These neighborhoods are defined by restricted versions of a new dynamic programming formulation for the problem and provide a systematic way of searching neighborhood structures based on the node-level exchanges. We have also developed several local search methods that are based on the new neighborhoods. Computational experiments for a set of benchmark instances with up to 80 nodes show that the more elaborate methods produce in a quite fast way, heuristic solutions that are, for all cases, within 2% of the optimum.

Layered graph models and exact algorithms for the generalized hop-constrained minimum spanning tree problem

This article studies the generalized hop-constrained minimum spanning tree problem (GHMSTP) which has applications in backbone network design subject to quality-of-service constraints that restrict the maximum number of intermediate routers along each communication path. Different possibilities to model the GHMSTP as an integer linear program and strengthening valid inequalities are studied. Th...

Modeling hop-constrained and diameter-constrained minimum spanning tree problems as Steiner tree problems over layered graphs

The Hop-Constrained Minimum Spanning Tree Problem (HMSTP) is a NP-hard problem arising in the design of centralized telecommunication networks with quality of service constraints. We show that the HMSTP is equivalent to a Steiner Tree Problem (STP) in an adequate layered graph. We prove that the directed cut formulation for the STP defined in the layered graph, dominates (in terms of the linear...

A multi-population hybrid biased random key genetic algorithm for hop-constrained trees in nonlinear cost flow networks

Genetic algorithms and other evolutionary algorithms have been successfully applied to solve constrained minimum spanning tree problems in a variety of communication network design problems. In this paper we enlarge the application of these types of algorithms by presenting a multi-population hybrid genetic algorithm to another communication design problem. This new problem is modeled through a...

Modelling the Hop Constrained Connected Facility Location Problem on Layered Graphs

Gouveia et al. [3] show how to model the Hop Constrained Minimum Spanning tree problem as Steiner tree problem on a layered graph. Following their ideas, we provide three possibilities to model the Hop Constrained (HC) Connected Facility Location problem (ConFL) as ConFL on layered graphs. We show that on all three layered graphs the respective LP relaxations of two cut based models are of the ...

On the Hop Constrained Steiner Tree Problem with Multiple Root Nodes

We consider a new network design problem that generalizes the Hop and Diameter Constrained Minimum Spanning and Steiner Tree Problem as follows: given an edge-weighted undirected graph whose nodes are partitioned into a set of root nodes, a set of terminals and a set of potential Steiner nodes, find a minimum-weight subtree that spans all the roots and terminals so that the number of hops betwe...
